The Wayne State University Planetarium engages both Wayne State students and community members in astronomy education. Each year, more than 8,000 visitors venture to the 27-foot diameter dome located inside the historic Old Main building on campus, leaving the outside world behind to explore the universe.

We are raising funds to replace the current planetarium projector, which is more than a decade old and components, including the color wheel, are failing. A new projector will make it possible for us to host top-notch planetarium shows once again when we're able to reopen and help us show you breathtaking new simulations currently sitting on the shelf because of limitations imposed by our outdated technology.

Planetarium shows are given to K-12 school groups, WSU Astronomy and Physics courses, and each weekend over 100 guests attend free public planetarium shows. Planetarium shows are hosted by a staff of 6 physics students. Additional events includes public science lectures, live-viewings of major astronomical events, a two-week summer camp, and our newest Science & Humanities Under the Dome endowed lecture. The planetarium is also used by student organizations to host their own film showings and special events. We look forward to resuming programming safely at a later date.
